Equity loan are only granted for the purchase of new apartments approved by HMS on the basis of an agreement between HMS and the house builder.

However, as an exception, it is permissible to lend equity loans for the purchase of older apartments outside the capital area. These apartments  must have undergone extensive renovations so that its condition can be matched with that of a new apartments and HMS must confirm that this is the case.

The applicant is permitted to purchase a residential property with one extra bedroom in excess of the family's needs. When assessing family size, in addition to the applicant, consideration shall be given to the number of children or young people under the age of 20 who are dependent on the applicant or living in the household. 

Consideration is given to the special circumstances of the applicant or his/her family when an extra room is needed for assistants due to disability.
